An Important Update

Earlier this year, Books Inc. entered the Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection process. Since then, our leadership team has worked doggedly to preserve both Books Inc.’s legacy and Reading Bridge’s place within it. Yesterday we learned that Barnes & Noble will be acquiring ownership of Books Inc. and that the Reading Bridge book fair program will be dissolved in 2026. If you are a recurring donor to Reading Bridge please know we have cancelled all future recurring and scheduled donations.

  • Timeline: Reading Bridge will wind down operations over the coming months.

  • Impact on Schools: We will work with each partner school individually to honor current commitments where possible and help connect them with alternative resources.

  • Our Team: We are deeply grateful for our small but mighty staff, who will be supported through this transition.

  • Looking Forward: Books Inc. and Barnes & Noble ownership are exploring how best to carry forward our commitment to literacy access in the Bay Area.

We are so grateful for the support we have received throughout our mission...

"The Reading Bridge brought a fantastic book fair to our middle school. Students, staff, and families were very excited about the selection of books available, and especially loved that each student received a free book of their choice! Working with The Reading Bridge staff was incredibly easy. They were knowledgeable, responsive, and eager to interact with students about the books. We could not have had a better experience. Thank you so much for putting new, interesting books into the hands of our middle school students! We hope to have you back next year."
